awaiting the demise of lawful rule
held hostage by lying lib’ral deceit
and trampled on by open ridicule

politicians feigning sympathy’s grief
over the loss of lady liberty
continue mocking innocent belief
in the righteous acts of prosperity

reality straining to overcome
oppressive regulations passed anew
by an executive set to become
malevolent ruler over virtue

why then follow insanity’s control
by repeating ills government require
while hiding virtues only God extol
and with the world’s correctness now conspire

forget not simple pleasures from the past
when goodness to a brother reigned on high
when forever freedom appeared to last
and every living soul to her comply

before resistance deemed a futile fool
held captive by the darkness of desire
before majestic power counted cruel
and destruction’s politics then aspire

awaken to lady liberty’s call
resounding throughout a weary nation
take heed lest this unique republic fall
to the power of evil’s temptation

leading away from unpleasant disgrace
at a time when godliness awaken

eyes that never saw before open wide
to see a gentle goodness long hidden
covered by confidence in deadly pride
masking humility long forbidden

suffering seems a distant memory
left behind with life’s addiction to death
recovery remains illusory
attempting to overcome evil’s breath

even though many supporters arise
to walk alongside with hope for today
only gratefulness learned anew applies
for a better tomorrow to repay

wherefore shall we not together reason
to desire to embrace addiction’s end
openly accepting life’s new season
with fervor only goodness comprehend

That’s when all your past hurts and traumas break through the walls you erected to flood your mind and your senses.  You may think the only way to push them back down is to take a drink, smoke a joint, or something worse for you.

There is another way! You can break out into the light.

around the next turn

We never quite know what we might encounter up ahead, around the next turn in the road.  It seems easier to look back at all the familiar faces we know, and all the familiar places we’ve been.  Moving forward can be very unnerving.

What are you going to do?  Move forward around the next turn to see what life’s unexpected adventure has in store for you?  Or turn back to your old life, and old friends, who keep you stuck in you old familiar behavior?

You have to want to move forward, to experience the next adventure life has in store for you.  You have to want it more than you want to go back to your old ways of sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll.  You have to want it more than anything in this life but God.

It’s not easy to step out into the unknown.  It’s your choice!  Recovery or Relapse?  Choose before the choice is taken away from you.

Sometimes I try to hide something about myself and think nobody can see it.  "I've covered it up really well", I say to myself.

If only I could see myself the way other people do!  Then I'd know that it's not so well covered, and everyone who passes by can see some of it, if not all.

The truth is I can fool myself if I want to, but I can never fool anyone who pays attention to me.  It's there plain as the nose on my face.  And so i find myself hiding from everyone.

Are you trying to cover up your flaws, not knowing you need to accept them in order to accept yourself.  We all have flaws.  The only person who ever lived who had no flaws is Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God.

Let Him help you accept your flaws.

Today everything seems sunny and bright. But tomorrow the winter storm will hit with all its fury, devouring your peace, and your comfort, and your recovery if you let it.

The Colorado River is running smooth and the sky is clear and bright on the day I took this picture at the Hoover Dam in 2002.  I wish I could say every day since then has be as smooth and clear and bright.  But that's not the way life happens.

There were many days that the river was choppy and the skies were dark and the winds were blowing.  And I survived with the support of family and friends, and with my feet resting firmly upon the Rock that never moves.

hidden hurts

This home is on Hayden Lake.  It looks so calm and peaceful, as does the lake, from my vantage point when I took the picture.  But no matter how long we stare at the photo we will never know what's going on inside.  Can we tell if a happy family lives there?  Do they truly care about one another?  Do they even talk to each other?

The same is true for people.  Most of the time we cannot tell what's going on inside another person.  We can only see that they dress well, appear recently showered, speak rather well, and even seem intelligent and polite.  But what's really going on inside?  Are they addicted to drugs or alcohol?  Are they hiding early childhood trauma?  Do their parents even love them?  Are they getting ready to hurt themselves, or someone else?

Sombrero Galaxy

The Sombrero Galaxy from Hubble: about 50 million light years away.  Many other galaxies are also visible, mostly as specs of light since they are so far away.  Did they just evolve, or were they created by God?

Guns don’t kill people.  Fanatics, terrorists, and criminals kill people!  Unless, of course, you are defending yourself, your family, your friends, your co-workers, or your neighbors.

Syed Rizwan Farook opened fire on his colleagues from San Bernardino County’s public health department, killing 14 people and wounding many more.  Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik were hell-bent on jihad.  And both were Muslims who recently traveled to Saudi Arabia.

President Obama said yesterday that it was possible that Wednesday’s mass murder in San Bernardino, that left 14 dead, “was a terror attack”, but that “we do not yet know,” and said that the incident could be “workplace related” – before calling on legislatures to make it harder for potential shooters to get access to weapons.  (From foxnews.com)

Obama used this horrific, brutal act of “hate” murder to impress his leftist political friends by calling for tighter gun control.  As if more gun control would have stopped this murder from occurring!  Terrorists and “hate” murderers will always find a way to get the guns they need to kill and maim, just as criminals and drug dealers always find a way.  And they will find a way, even if ALL legal guns were abolished from within the borders of the Unites States of America.

What if only the terrorists, and the criminals, and the government had guns?  Would we be any better off?  Any safer?  Are you willing to give up your constitutional right to legally own a gun?  I for one am not!  At some point in time it may well be the only way I will be able to love my neighbor, as Jesus teaches.

These trees are heavy laden with snow from the past few days. Some trees around have lost large heavy branches, or the trunk snapped somewhere in the middle of the tree from the weight of the snow. If it hadn’t snowed, the trees would not have broken. But sometimes forces totally out of our control can cause something in each of us to snap, or break. When this happens, we need to have friends and family to turn to for solace.

After a long period of time passes, sometimes the only thing left standing is that which was built to last, and everything else disintegrates into dust that was blown away by a gentlest breeze. Tiny houses can be used for a lot of things.  One is to give people hope and a fresh start.  Our first house we called “The House That Hope Built”, because it gave those who built it hope and a fresh start.  Now these houses can give others hope...  The homeless don't have to live on the street or in tents, they can have 4 walls, a bed and a hot shower...  And so hope continues.
